One size does not fit all when it comes to wealth planning. Two people can earn the same income and still require completely different financial strategies. Because wealth is shaped by far more than numbers.

Your portfolio should reflect your life, not someone else’s. A business owner has different needs to a salaried executive. A young family has different priorities to someone nearing retirement. An expat’s strategy should not look the same as someone retiring locally.

Yet many investment plans are still built like templates. Real financial planning starts with understanding the person first. Goals. Responsibilities. Risks. Timeframes. Lifestyle.

Too many people treat life insurance as a grudge purchase. Until something happens. Then it suddenly becomes the most important financial decision they ever made.

Life cover is not there for you. It is there for the people who would have to carry on without you. A good financial plan is not only about growing wealth. It is also about protecting the people and future attached to it.

What makes our business different? In an industry filled with products, charts and technical language, people are often looking for something simpler: Trust. Clarity. And advice that feels personal.

At Holborn Africa, financial planning is built around understanding the individual first.

Different lives require different strategies. Different goals require different conversations. In this video, I tell you more about the thinking and values behind the way we work with clients.

Before wealth is financial, it is personal. It reflects your values, your responsibilities and your definition of security.

The strongest financial strategies are built around real lives, real goals and real priorities, not generic templates.

Your financial journey should never be treated like a template.

That is why one-size-fits-all thinking does not belong in long-term financial planning. Real wealth planning takes context into account.

Your wealth journey is unique, just like a fingerprint.

Africa Day is a reminder of the opportunity, resilience and growth that exists across this continent. For many of us living and working in Africa, wealth planning carries a unique balance. We believe in local opportunity. We build businesses here. Raise families here. Invest in communities here.

But we also understand the value of global diversification and protecting wealth across borders. The strongest financial plans are often the ones that combine both: local ambition with international perspective.

Happy Africa Day.

There is a difference between being wealthy on paper and being financially secure. Many professionals earn well, own property and contribute to retirement funds, yet still feel uncertain about the future. Why?

Because real financial confidence comes from structure, not just income. It comes from knowing:
• What happens to your family if something happens to you
• Whether your retirement will actually support your lifestyle
• If your investments are properly diversified
• How exposed you are to tax, inflation and currency risk

The people who sleep best at night are often not the richest. They are the most prepared.

A lot of South Africans still invest as though their future will be spent entirely in rands. But many of life’s biggest expenses are linked to global markets.

University fees. International travel. Imported healthcare. Technology. Retirement abroad. Even fuel prices. That doesn’t mean you need to move your money offshore in fear. It means you need to think beyond one currency and one economy.

Good financial planning is not about predicting the future. It’s about preparing for more than one version of it. If your long-term plans involve global costs, your investment strategy should reflect that.

Moving to South Africa can be an exciting lifestyle decision, but many people underestimate how important it is to review their financial structure before making the move.

Tax residency, offshore investments, pensions, estate planning and currency exposure can all be affected when you change jurisdictions. What worked well in one country may no longer be the most efficient structure in another.

The earlier these conversations happen, the more options people usually have.

A relocation plan should not only focus on where you will live. It should also consider how your wealth will move with you.

I recently came across this article from Holborn Africa that explains some of the key financial considerations before relocating to South Africa.
