Molweni! 👋 I’m Culumanco Madolo, your friendly neighborhood financial advisor from Sanlam I'm here to help you build a better relationship with money, even in a world full of "treat yourself" moments! 😉Growing up, I didn’t suffer from FOMO (thankfully!). I had enough but wasn’t showered in luxuries. But then came the all-girls hostel in my teenage years...an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone, especially my future kids!Despite that, I was financially supported by my mom (and sometimes my father). I started saving, felt empowered, and quickly learned how satisfying it was to see that number grow. But, there was a flip side.↪️When Over-Consumption Becomes my new Norm. The independence was nice, but I was alone in a new city, with no family close by. So, I started filling that void with stuff. Every month, then every week...and soon, shopping became a weekly habit. People thought I was a “rich kid” (the allegations were never denied!). 🫣New shoes, gadgets, clothes, sometimes used only once before I’d pass them on. The thrill of buying faded fast, but the habit stuck. Eventually, my savings dropped from 50% of my allowance to a meager 20%, and that’s when I knew I had to make a change.↪️Breaking the CycleI went back to basics. I realized I was chasing something more meaningful, not just the temporary rush of new purchases. Over time, I rebuilt my budget, focused on essentials, and got back to a healthy saving habit. So, Let’s Talk About Money and Meaning 💬➡️ What spending habits are you trying to let go of?➡️ How are you working on it?➡️ And, most importantly, why are you over-consuming?Drop a comment below.
