Our company, based in Durban North, has a vacancy for a Senior Bookkeeper.
Reports to: Accounting Manager
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Senior Bookkeeper to join our dynamic Accounting Department within a well-established Chartered Accountant and Auditing Firm.
This role is ideal for an individual with a strong foundation in bookkeeping and accounting principles, and who thrives in a deadline-driven environment.
The successful candidate will take ownership of the full bookkeeping function for multiple clients and support audit preparation and reporting functions.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate and timely records of financial transactions from source documents through to trial balance.
Perform full function bookkeeping for multiple entities across various industries.
Process and reconcile bank and cash book transactions using Pastel Partner.
Prepare and reconcile general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable ledgers.
Analyse and process VAT transactions, prepare and submit VAT201 returns, ensuring compliance with the VAT Act.
Understanding of EMP201, UI-19, and Workmenβs Compensation.
Manage and reconcile debtors and creditors accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely follow-up on outstanding items.
Drafting and finalisation of Annual Financial Statements (AFS) using Caseware.
Navigate and process submissions on SARS eFiling.
Liaise with clients to request necessary documentation and resolve queries in a professional and timely manner.
Provide detailed monthly management reports and reconciliations to the Accounting Manager.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control procedures.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting and tax regulations, including updates from SARS.
Support external audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
Communicate regularly with the Accounting Manager on all bookkeeping-related issues, progress, and deadlines.
Train and mentor junior bookkeeping staff where required.
Minimum Requirements
Matric Certificate.
BCom Accounting degree or similar qualification (or currently studying towards it).
Minimum 2 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience, preferably in an auditing or accounting firm environment.
Proficient in Pastel Partner and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience with Caseware is highly advantageous.
Sound knowledge of SARS eFiling, VAT, PAYE, and UIF legislation and procedures.
Valid driver's licence and own reliable vehicle an advantage.
Residing in the surrounding area is an advantage.
