SARS has officially gazetted the rules for the 2026 tax season, and the good news is that many individuals with straightforward finances may not need to file a return this year.
๐
Key Deadlines:
๐น Individual taxpayers โ 23 October 2026
๐น Provisional taxpayers & trusts โ 22 January 2027
โ
You may be exempt from filing if your income is only from:
โ A single employer salary under R500,000 (with correct PAYE deducted)
โ SA interest within set limits โ R23,800 (under 65) | R34,500 (65 and older)
โ Tax-free investments or a single retirement lump sum
โ Exempt dividends (non-residents)
โ ๏ธ Important: The exemption falls away the moment you have travel allowances, taxable fringe benefits, or income from services rendered outside South Africa โ even if everything else qualifies.
Taxpayers selected for an automatic assessment also don't need to file manually โ SARS will notify you in writing.
Not sure whether you need to file? Don't leave it to chance. ๐ผ
