MIBCO has issued Circular No. 2025/00042 confirming the implementation of a primary medical health insurance scheme for Sector 5 (fuel dealers, service stations and related establishments).

Key points:

• Effective date: scheme starts 1 February 2026 (benefits accessible from this date).

• Membership: automatic and compulsory for all Sector 5 employees, unless an employee validly opts out or has an approved exemption.

• Contributions (per main member, per month):

◦ Employer allowance: R85 (Year 1: 1 Feb 2026–31 Aug 2026), R90 (Year 2: 1 Sep 2026–31 Aug 2027), R95 (Year 3: 1 Sep 2027–31 Aug 2028).

◦ Employee contribution (Year 1 balance): R174, with the Affinity Health Plan option noted at R259 per member per month (subject to correct deductions and payment).

• Payments: employers must remit contributions via the MIBCO Returns system by the 10th of each month following the month for which contributions are due.

• Opt-out: employees may opt out in writing within 60 days of scheme commencement or 60 days of starting employment (whichever is later), by visiting a MIBCO office to complete the prescribed form. If benefits are used within the first 60 days, the employee is automatically opted in and cannot be excluded.

It’s that time of year again, when spreadsheets start competing with mince pies for our attention 🤭 Our office will be closed from 19 December 2025 and we’ll be back, relaxed, tanned and slightly heavier on 12 January 2026 🥳🧘‍♀️

During this time:
• Urgent support will still be available (with prior notice where possible)
• And of course, true emergencies only
Eg:
“Nobody got paid” – yes
“I changed my logo and hate the colour” – not so much

If you already know you’ll need help over this period, please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly and avoid last-minute festive panic.

We’re here to help you glide through December payroll like a pro.

We can assist with:
• Creating a special run for Bonus payslips
• Creating batches to process leave dates for all employees, saving you time
• Checking Voluntary Additional PAYE calculations so they’re correct and SARS doesn’t get any unexpected “gifts”

If you’d like support with any of the above, please get in touch on [email protected] before everything turns into tinsel and chaos 🥳
