This is a great summary from Jeremy at Ninety One on the effect of the war on the markets. Worth a quick listen.

My time in Taiwan has come to an end, and it’s been a great experience. Today included a meeting with the President of Taiwan, President Li — an absolute gentleman. Last night I found myself seated next to the Deputy Secretary General in the President’s Office for dinner, along with several Ministers, including the Minister of Economics. It’s genuinely inspiring to see how rapidly their economy is growing and how far they’ve come in financial planning. Taiwan is very much a global player, with clear ambitions to become a major Asian financial hub.

I also spent a good amount of time with the Japanese delegation and had an especially insightful conversation with the Japanese Ambassador to Taiwan. He has lived all over the world and reminded me once again how travel expands our minds and deepens our appreciation for different cultures.

As for my speech — it went well, thankfully! And for those of you wondering about the song… yes, I did it. I sang, solo, in front of 700 people. Three minutes and thirty-eight seconds of pure courage (or stupidity 😜) Nothing intimidating at all! Fortunately the lights were bright enough that I couldn’t actually see all 700 faces. (And just to be clear, all the international speakers had to sing something from their home countries.) As for the video… it’s staying on my phone. Let’s just say the phone’s sound quality is definitely to blame. 😜

The Taiwanese people have been warm, gracious, and incredibly welcoming. I’ve loved meeting them and I hope I managed to inspire a few along the way.

This morning I received the press releases — which is always slightly surreal when you can’t read a word of them. But I did recognise my name, and of course the photo, so fingers crossed they said something kind. I’ll wait for the team to translate before celebrating too enthusiastically.

Tomorrow I head home to normal life, my friends, and the joy of not needing a translator. My travels are officially done for the year. Next year is shaping up to be very busy, but I’m grateful for every chance I get to help lead globally in financial planning.

I’m currently on my way to Taiwan, and I have to say—having Wi-Fi on board is a true game changer! It’s allowed me to enjoy a fully productive day while flying.

Singapore Airlines has been exceptional. The service has been outstanding, and the crew incredibly warm and attentive. I truly feel well looked after. And I even have a Christmas decoration at my seat!

I’m heading to Taiwan to speak at an event for the Financial Planning Association of Taiwan, in my capacity as Chairperson of the Financial Planning Standards Board Council.

And here’s the fun twist: it’s tradition for a foreign speaker to sing a song from their home country. My first reaction was, “Well, this takes the role of international speaker to a whole new level!” But now I’m fully embracing it. I’ll be singing *Christmas in Cape Town*—a choice close to my heart because I’m so passionate about our city and our country. 🇿🇦 It’s going to be such fun! I’ll be wearing my African outfit with my new African beads! I’ll be sure to post a photo.
