Since we shared our Best of George nomination last week, the messages and kind words from so many of you have genuinely moved me. Thank you. It’s reminded me, all over again, why I love what we do.

People sometimes ask what makes an independent practice different. For me, it comes down to one thing. When you sit across from us, the advice you receive is shaped by your life and your goals, and nothing else. No targets, no products we’re nudged to sell. Just honest guidance from people who know you, and often know your family too.

That’s the kind of relationship the Best of George Awards quietly celebrates. The clients who become familiar faces. The first nervous meeting that turns into twenty years of walking the road together. We don’t take a single one of those relationships for granted.

I’m so pleased to share that The One Financial Solution has been nominated in the George Herald Best of George Awards for a second year running, under Best Financial Planning / Brokers.

I won’t pretend it isn’t a wonderful feeling. To be recognised once was humbling. To be recognised again, a year later, tells me that the work my team pours into this community every single day is being felt by the people it’s meant for. That means the world to me.

When I started this practice, I wanted to build something that put people first and kept them there. Every plan, every conversation, every quiet bit of guidance through a hard decision. Some days, you're the one who didn't make it.

Last weekend at Bigway Camp, I was part of a 16-way skydiving formation. Except not quite. I was the only one who didn't reach it.

It was hard. These things are.

But my coach saw it differently. He didn't see a gap in the formation. He saw someone who was still in the jump.

That stayed with me all weekend.

I thought about Lewis Hamilton. Seven world championships. The most decorated driver in Formula One history. And yet 2025 was the worst season of his career. Not a single podium. But he stayed in the car. Two races into 2026, he was back on the podium.

I thought about the Springbok squad announced earlier this year. Forty-nine players called up. And dozens more who trained just as hard, came just as close, and didn't hear their name called. Not yet. Missing out is not the same as being finished.

Everyone who has built something worthwhile has collected more hard days than good ones. Most of those hard days arrived disguised as mistakes. But they were clues. Each one pointing toward a better way through.

The question is never whether the hard days will come. They will. The question is whether you will be ready when they do.

That is what financial planning is, at its core.
Not the hope that things will always go well. But the preparation that means when they don't, you are already standing on solid ground.

Last week, four vehicles filled with donated food, blankets, clothing, and essential supplies were delivered from our offices to the George Disaster Management Centre.

What came through our doors over those few days was a reminder of something deeply reassuring about this community. People showed up. Quietly, generously, and without hesitation.

To every person who dropped off donations, shared the message, or reached out to ask how they could help, THANK YOU. Whether you were a long-standing client, a neighbouring business, a friend, or someone we had never met before, every contribution mattered.

We would also like to thank the George Municipality and the George Disaster Management Centre for the work being done across the region to support affected families and coordinate relief efforts during a very difficult week.

Thank you as well to the George Herald for helping keep the community informed and for amplifying local relief initiatives throughout the week.

To our neighbours, clients, friends, and the wider George community,

Today's gale-force winds have caused significant damage across parts of George and the surrounding areas, with fallen trees, property damage, power outages, and disruption reported throughout the region. With further heavy rainfall expected, many families may face additional challenges in the days ahead.

From Wednesday 13 May, through to Friday 15 May, The One Financial Solution will open its offices as a community drop-off point for relief donations.

Donations needed:

Office Closure Notice - Severe Weather

Due to the severe weather conditions currently affecting George, including heavy rainfall and widespread disruptions, our offices will be closed today.

All staff are working remotely and remain available to assist you.

You jump. But does your insurance?

In late March, The One Financial Solution was proud to be among the sponsors of the South African National Skydiving Championships in Robertson.

The event showcased exceptional talent across multiple disciplines. Our involvement was driven by something more considered.

High-risk activities like skydiving surface a broader truth in financial planning: not all risk is equally understood, and not all risk is equally covered.

Many traditional life and disability policies carry exclusions or limitations around high-risk pursuits. These gaps are often only discovered when it matters most.

As advisors, that is where our responsibility lies.

During the event, we ran a survey across the skydiving community. The objective was clear: to better understand how individuals exposed to non-traditional risk are currently covered, and where the gaps sit.

The insight forms part of a broader initiative. We are developing more relevant, tailored risk solutions for clients whose lives extend beyond the standard underwriting picture.

Our owner and lead principal, Isobel Rohwer, is not only an advisor but an active participant in the sport. She competed at Nationals in the 2-Way FS Open category. That dual perspective, professional and personal, allows her to approach risk with greater depth, clarity, and precision.

Participants who completed the survey were entered into a draw. Congratulations to Simon Bak, who has won R2 500 towards his jump account at a dropzone of his choice.
