D&W is back with some important news about tax season, which kicks off at 8pm, on 7 July. We want to make sure you're all set and ready to go when it's time to file your tax return. Here are a few things you should know...
Remember these dates so you don't miss a beat:
If you're a salaried employee, tax season will close 23 October 2023.
For the entrepreneurs: If you earn income in addition to a salary (e.g rental, freelance, investment income, etc) your filing deadline is 24 January 2024.
Auto-Assessments: Auto-Assessments will be sent out from 1 - 7 July. You will have until the 23 October 2023 to approve or submit a tax return.
Remember: The Auto-Assessment may not have all your deductions so we would always recommend filing your tax return yourself so you can make sure you're getting the most out of your refund. You deserve it.
To make life easier, here's a handy checklist of what you'll need when it's time to file:
IRP5/IT3(a) certificates: These are the papers from your employer(s) that show your salary and deductions.
Medical aid certificate(s): If you have medical aid, make sure you have the certificate(s) showing your contributions.
Retirement annuity fund certificate(s): If you contribute to a retirement annuity fund, keep those certificates within reach.
IT3b/IT3c: These are the tax forms used to report investment income. Check with your financial advisor if you didn’t receive them.
Travel logbook: Used to track business-related travel expenses for tax purposes.

s18A donation tax certificate(s): if you contributed to a PBO (Public Benefit Organisation), request this from the charity.
Any other income and deduction info: If you have additional income or expenses to report, gather the necessary records like rental income, freelance and any other money matters.
