What would happen to your family if you died last night?

Most of us avoid that question. We would rather talk about holidays, home renovations or almost anything other than death and money.

Yet this is exactly why the conversation matters.

A signed will is important, but it does not answer everything. It may not give your partner access to cash. It may not cover your retirement funds or living annuity. It may not explain why you made certain decisions, or help your family avoid confusion when emotions are already high.

Michael Avery and I speak to Financial Planning Specialist Maryanne Leicher about the difference between a will and a proper estate plan, and why putting numbers to your wishes can be one of the kindest things you do for the people you love.

The biggest mistake I see young professionals make is assuming that earning more will make them wealthy. It rarely does.

Wealth has very little to do with how much you earn and almost everything to do with how deliberately you use it.

More salary does not necessarily equal more security.
