What would happen to your family if you died last night?

Most of us avoid that question. We would rather talk about holidays, home renovations or almost anything other than death and money.

Yet this is exactly why the conversation matters.

A signed will is important, but it does not answer everything. It may not give your partner access to cash. It may not cover your retirement funds or living annuity. It may not explain why you made certain decisions, or help your family avoid confusion when emotions are already high.

Michael Avery and I speak to Financial Planning Specialist Maryanne Leicher about the difference between a will and a proper estate plan, and why putting numbers to your wishes can be one of the kindest things you do for the people you love.

The biggest mistake I see young professionals make is assuming that earning more will make them wealthy. It rarely does.

Wealth has very little to do with how much you earn and almost everything to do with how deliberately you use it.

More money won’t make you wealthy if your habits stay the same.

In my recent conversation with Simon Brown on MoneywebNOW, we spoke about the habits that shape how we save, spend and invest, and why waiting until you feel “ready” can cost you more than you realise.

The Bank of Mom and Dad rarely asks for an application… but it can come at a cost.

In this episode of Life Chapters, Money Choices, Michael Avery and I are joined by Financial Planning Specialist Tom Brukman to explore the financial and emotional realities of supporting adult children.

When does support become dependency? And how do you balance helping your children with protecting your own financial future?

Because sometimes the most caring thing you can do isn't give more - it's helping your children stand on their own.

A father’s legacy is often found in the small things we remember every day.

• A phrase they use.
• A value they live by.
• A lesson they taught.
• A way of dealing with life’s challenges.

Today, we celebrate the fathers and father figures who shape our lives through their love, guidance and example.

What is something your father taught you that you still carry with you today? 🩵

The Bank of Mom and Dad never asks for an application form… but it can come at a cost.

At what point does support become something more difficult to sustain?

In this episode of Life Chapters, Money Choices, Michael Avery and I are joined by Financial Planning Specialist Tom Brukman for an honest conversation about the financial and emotional realities of supporting adult children.

From covering everyday expenses...
To recognising when support becomes dependency...
To balancing family needs with your own financial future...

They explore the emotional drivers behind these decisions and the often-overlooked impact on long-term financial security.

Because it’s not just about money.
It’s about love, boundaries, and independence.

Sometimes the most caring thing you can do isn’t giving more. It’s helping your children stand on their own.
