Submitted your tax return and waiting for your refund?
While many refunds are processed without issue, some may take longer if SARS needs to conduct a verification or audit, confirm banking details, or request additional supporting documents.

Before worrying about the delay, check that:
✔ Your banking details are correct
✔ Any requested supporting documents have been submitted
✔ You don't have outstanding returns or other issues that may affect your assessment

If your refund is taking longer than expected, it can be difficult to know what happens next.

🚗 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹?

If you receive a travel allowance or use your personal vehicle for work-related travel, a properly maintained logbook can make all the difference when submitting your tax return.

A logbook helps SARS determine the business portion of your travel and may be required to support your claim.

Before tax season catches you off guard, ask yourself:
✔ Have you kept a logbook for the year?
✔ Are your business and private kilometres recorded accurately?
✔ Do you have the supporting information SARS may request?

Many taxpayers only realise the importance of a logbook when it's time to submit their return.

Employers are reminded that the EMP501 Interim Reconciliation submission period covers the six-month period from 1 March to 31 August.

📅 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱:
• Opens: 21 September 2026
• Closes: 31 October 2026

The reconciliation process helps ensure that your PAYE, UIF and SDL declarations agree with your payroll records and employee tax certificates.

Don't leave your submission until the last minute. Taking action early can help identify and resolve any discrepancies before the deadline.

🏠 Many taxpayers assume that working from home automatically means they qualify for a home office deduction. Unfortunately, it's not quite that simple.

To qualify, SARS generally requires that:

✔ More than 50% of your duties are performed from that home office.
✔ The space is specifically equipped for work purposes.
Many taxpayers are unsure whether they qualify or what supporting documentation SARS may require.
