Job Description: Senior Bookkeeper
Position Title: Senior Bookkeeper
Department: Finance/Accounting
Reports To: Accounting Manager/Finance Director
Location: Cape Town Basic: R20 000.00 -R35 000.00
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Bookkeeper to oversee and manage our financial transactions, reporting, and record-keeping. The Senior Bookkeeper will play a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the organization, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing accurate and timely financial data to support decision-making. This role requires a high level of organization, analytical thinking, and a commitment to accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
• Financial Management: Oversee and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll processing.
• Bank Reconciliations: Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations to ensure accuracy and identify discrepancies.
• Month-End Closures: Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Reporting: Prepare and analyze financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and budgets.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including tax filings (e.g., VAT, GST, or sales tax).
• Audit Support: Assist in preparing documentation and responses for internal and external audits.
• Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy within the finance function.
• Supervision: Mentor and guide junior bookkeeping staff, ensuring high standards of performance and accuracy.
• Software Utilization: Use accounting software and other tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite) to maintain and analyze financial data.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of bookkeeping experience, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of GAAP (or IFRS) and financial principles.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical mindset.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
