Provisional tax is one of the most misunderstood parts of tax season, and it catches a lot of people off guard.
It’s not an extra tax.�It’s simply paying your income tax in advance, so you don’t end up with a massive bill (plus penalties and interest) at the end of the year.
If you earn income outside of a salary — like rental income, freelance work, director’s fees, or investment income — this likely applies to you.
The second provisional payment is due by 28 February 2026 and getting it wrong can be costly.
