Yet another awesome reason to be a member of the Pietermaritzburg & Midlands Chamber of Business!

GERMAN BUSINESS EXPERTISE TO TACKLE OPERATIONAL CHALLENGES
Members of the Pietermaritzburg and Midlands Chamber of Business are offered access to the German-funded Senior Expert Service (SES) that makes availabe experienced professionals to help businesses address operational challenges while building long-term skills within their organisations.

The programme covers a wide range of fields, including manufacturing, engineering, quality management, food processing, marketing, exports, renewable energy, agriculture, hospitality, financial management and staff development. Interested members are required to complete an application outlining their business, current challenges and the expertise required. SES then identifies a suitably qualified German expert whose professional background matches those needs. Once approved, the assignment and travel arrangements are coordinated, with the expert typically working on-site for three to four weeks.

It is not uncommon for a taxpayer to receive an ITA34 shortly after electronically submitting an ITR12, indicating that no verification or audit is required.

However, a few days later, SARS may issue a separate notice requesting supporting documentation.

According to SARS, this occurs because, after the initial ITA34 has been issued, its systems may identify an anomaly through its automated risk-assessment algorithms. As a result, the taxpayer is subsequently selected for verification and is requested to submit supporting documents.

For this reason, taxpayers and tax practitioners should always remain alert for any further correspondence from SARS after the initial ITA34 has been issued, as the taxpayer's status may change from "No Verification Required" to "Verification Required'.

URGENT - SARS AUTO ASSESSMENTS!!

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has urged taxpayers to carefully review their auto-assessments for missing or incorrect data during the 2026 tax filing season, warning that blindly accepting them can lead to severe penalties or lost refunds.

While the automated system streamlines compliance for roughly 6 million taxpayers using pre-populated third-party details, the legally binding responsibility for data accuracy rests entirely with the individual taxpayer.

Before you accept your SARS auto-assessment, let ControlPro review it for accuracy, compliance, and peace of mind. Because when it comes to your tax affairs, confidence starts with getting it right.

Attended the Sage Roadshow at the Durban ICC this week. Time well spent! It was a powerful reminder of how quickly our business landscape is evolving — and why staying informed matters.

This panel on “Why the CFO Role Is Changing” was a standout session. Hearing from leaders like Abed Tau and Pat Mokgatle was both energising and affirming. Their insights on strategic finance, technology, and the future of business through partnering with AI, really resonated with me.
