And the winner is… GARVA.
It's a moment I'll never forget and will never take for granted. Being named a finalist in the 2026 Xero South Africa Awards was already a huge honour for a small firm from Port Elizabeth that opened its doors only two and a half years ago, because reaching the national stage is a big deal for any firm, and I was grateful just to be in the room.
When they started announcing the winners, I wasnt expecting to hear our name at all, so I had just taken a big bite of my delicious dessert! Then I heard it: GARVA, winner of the Community Impact award. Im still taking it in.
To us, this award isnt really about a trophy. It recognises something we believe deeply, which is that accounting is about people as much as numbers. Behind every set of financial statements is a business owner trying to provide for their family, a non-profit trying to stretch every rand to help more people, or an entrepreneur taking a brave first step. When we help them understand their finances, stay compliant and plan ahead, we help them build something that lasts and reaches far beyond their own doors.
Community impact means giving your expertise where it's needed most, even when there's no invoice at the end. It means walking alongside organisations that care for children, families and the vulnerable, so they can focus on their mission while we take care of the rest. It comes from believing that strong, well-run businesses and NPOs build strong communities.
This award belongs to our partners, our team and every client who trusts us with their story. Thank you to Xero for the recognition and the difference you make in communities every day, to my fellow finalists for the inspiration, and to everyone who has supported GARVA along the way. If you work in this profession, remember that your skills can change lives, so use them generously. We are humbled, grateful and more committed than ever.
