Big sales numbers can look impressive, but revenue isnโ€™t profit. ๐Ÿ˜…

Once expenses, salaries, tax, software and all the โ€œsmallโ€ costs have had their say, your bottom line tells the real story.

Keep an eye on:
โ€ข Gross profit
โ€ข Net profit
โ€ข Cash flow

A busy business isnโ€™t automatically a profitable one. Turnover gets the applause; profit pays the bills.

Your trust may be compliant today, but would it meet tomorrowโ€™s rules?

The proposed Regulation of Trusts Bill, 2026 could introduce annual returns, stricter financial reporting, tighter beneficial ownership requirements and greater accountability for trustees.

The Bill is not law yet, but now is the time to check whether your trust records, resolutions and reporting are in order.

Read what may change and what trustees should review now:

August isnโ€™t a month to put tax admin on the โ€œlaterโ€ list.

The 2026 individual filing season is already underway, and the first provisional tax period for March-to-February taxpayers ends on 31 August. Monthly EMP201 obligations also continue throughout the year.

If your July EMP201 was missed, deal with it now. If provisional tax applies to you, start preparing before month-end. And if your individual return still needs attention, donโ€™t wait for October.

One plan. Fewer surprises.

our business account should tell the story of your business. Personal spending makes that story much harder to read.

Mixing the two can create unnecessary bookkeeping work, make expenses harder to verify and leave you scrambling when itโ€™s time to prepare tax or VAT records.

Separate accounts. Keep the supporting documents. Record transactions properly.

Itโ€™s a simple habit that makes cleaner reporting and better financial decisions much easier.

A profitable business can still be short of cash when SARS needs to be paid.

For many provisional taxpayers with a February year-end, the first provisional tax period ends on 31 August.

That payment shouldnโ€™t come as a month-end surprise.

Good cash-flow planning means knowing what is coming in, what needs to go out and which tax obligations need cash set aside before the deadline arrives.

Has your turnover grown faster than expected?

From 1 April 2026, the compulsory VAT registration threshold increased to R2.3 million in taxable supplies per annum. The voluntary registration threshold increased to R120,000, subject to the applicable requirements.

That means growing businesses should be watching turnover throughout the year, not waiting until year-end to ask whether VAT registration applies.

If your numbers are moving towards the threshold, speak to Core before it becomes a rushed compliance exercise.

One payroll mistake can become several problems very quickly.

An incorrect payslip can affect PAYE deductions, UIF, SDL, employee records and the figures you eventually reconcile with SARS. Employers are responsible for correctly declaring these amounts through their payroll tax submissions.

Good payroll isnโ€™t simply about paying salaries on time. Itโ€™s about making sure the numbers behind every payment can stand up to scrutiny.

Let Core Accountants & Tax Inc. take the admin and uncertainty out of your monthly payroll.

31 August 2026 is getting closer.

For provisional taxpayers with a March-to-February tax year, the first provisional tax period ends on 31 August. Your estimated taxable income is declared on an IRP6, with the relevant payment made to SARS.

Donโ€™t base the calculation on a quick guess. Your current income, business performance and expected taxable income all matter.

If you havenโ€™t started preparing yet, now is the time.

Speak to Core Accountants & Tax Inc. about your provisional tax calculation.
