✈️ Travelling to or from South Africa? Take note of this important SARS update.

From 1 July 2026, all travellers entering or departing South Africa by air, land, sea, or rail are required to complete the SARS Online Traveller Declaration before travelling.

This new Customs requirement applies to:
✔️ South African citizens
✔️ Permanent residents
✔️ Foreign nationals
✔️ Business travellers
✔️ Children and infants (completed by a parent or legal guardian)

The declaration must be completed within 24 hours before travel and can be submitted online via the SARS Traveller Management System or the South African Traveller Management System (SATMS) mobile app.

Travellers should also ensure they understand the applicable Customs declaration requirements and duty-free allowances before travelling. Completing the declaration in advance will help avoid unnecessary delays at ports of entry and departure.

If you're travelling soon, make sure you're prepared.

SARS has warned that any travellers entering or leaving South Africa must now submit a mandatory online traveller declaration before they travel.

Tax season is around the corner - and so are the scammers.

As SARS begins auto-assessments from 1 July 2026 and tax filing opens on 13 July 2026, be cautious of emails and SMSs claiming to be from SARS. Scammers often take advantage of this time of year by sending fake refund notifications, settlement demands, letters of demand, and auto-assessment notices.

Before clicking any links or sharing personal information, always verify that communications are genuinely from SARS.
Stay alert. Stay protected.

Orca Fraud CEO Thalia Pillay has broken down some of the most common types of scams targetting taxpayers in South Africa.

📢 SARS Tax Season 2026 Dates Announced

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has confirmed the key dates for Tax Season 2026:

✅ Auto Assessments: 1 July – 12 July 2026
✅ Individual (Non-Provisional) Taxpayers: 13 July – 23 October 2026
✅ Provisional Taxpayers & Trusts: 13 July 2026 – 22 January 2027

If you earn a salary and your tax affairs are straightforward, you may receive an auto assessment from SARS. However, it's important to review your assessment carefully to ensure all income, deductions, and tax information are accurate.

For provisional taxpayers, including business owners, freelancers, investors, and property owners, early preparation is key to meeting your obligations and avoiding penalties.

Our team is ready to assist with tax return reviews, submissions, and tax planning to help you stay compliant and maximise available tax benefits. Contact us at [email protected] to ensure you're prepared for Tax Season 2026.

💸 TAX MYTH BUSTER 💸
“Submitting late is fine if SARS owes me money anyway.”

Not quite ❌

Even if you’re due for a refund, late submissions can still create unnecessary delays, admin issues, and possible penalties depending on your tax situation.

✅ Staying compliant means:
- Faster processing
- Less stress during tax season
- Better financial planning
- Keeping your business records up to date

📌 Pro tip: Don’t wait for deadline panic. A little preparation now saves a lot of frustration later.

TAX SEASON 2026: Do you actually need to submit a Tax Return?

Good news! Not every South African taxpayer will need to file a return in 2026.

According to SARS, you may NOT need to submit a tax return if:
✅ You earn under R500,000 from ONE employer
✅ PAYE has already been deducted
✅ You only earned limited local interest income
✅ You only received tax-free investment income or certain retirement lump sums

BUT, there are important exceptions.

If you:
❌ Receive travel or subsistence allowances
❌ Earn foreign income
❌ Receive taxable employment benefits
you may still need to file.

Tax rules can be confusing, and filing incorrectly could lead to penalties or delays with SARS.

Need help understanding whether you should file?
Our team is here to guide you through tax season stress-free.
