💸 TAX MYTH BUSTER 💸
“Submitting late is fine if SARS owes me money anyway.”

Not quite ❌

Even if you’re due for a refund, late submissions can still create unnecessary delays, admin issues, and possible penalties depending on your tax situation.

✅ Staying compliant means:
- Faster processing
- Less stress during tax season
- Better financial planning
- Keeping your business records up to date

📌 Pro tip: Don’t wait for deadline panic. A little preparation now saves a lot of frustration later.

TAX SEASON 2026: Do you actually need to submit a Tax Return?

Good news! Not every South African taxpayer will need to file a return in 2026.

According to SARS, you may NOT need to submit a tax return if:
✅ You earn under R500,000 from ONE employer
✅ PAYE has already been deducted
✅ You only earned limited local interest income
✅ You only received tax-free investment income or certain retirement lump sums

BUT, there are important exceptions.

If you:
❌ Receive travel or subsistence allowances
❌ Earn foreign income
❌ Receive taxable employment benefits
you may still need to file.

Tax rules can be confusing, and filing incorrectly could lead to penalties or delays with SARS.

Need help understanding whether you should file?
Our team is here to guide you through tax season stress-free.

⚠️ South African taxpayers: the clock is ticking.

SARS is tightening debt collection, issuing 10-day final demands for outstanding tax returns across individuals, companies, and trusts. Miss the deadline and you could face penalties, legal action, or even criminal charges.

With reports of cases involving years of unfiled returns, the message is clear:
Get compliant now, before SARS comes knocking.

SARS has been upping the ante in its debt collection efforts, demanding that taxpayers from all categories bring their tax affairs up to date within days.

Fuel relief now… but at a future cost?

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has warned that April’s R3 per litre fuel tax relief will need to be recovered in some form. Commissioner-designate Dr Ngobani Johnstone Makhubu noted this comes as SARS faces a higher revenue target of R2.13 trillion for 2026/27, following a record R2 trillion collection in 2025/26.

The temporary relief, introduced by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana, was designed as a short-term measure to cushion consumers amid a global energy crisis - not a permanent solution. According to outgoing commissioner Edward Kieswetter, the one-month levy cut gives government time to assess the scale of the crisis - but it doesn’t come without consequences.

SARS Commissioner-designate Dr Ngobani Johnstone Makhubu says that the R3 per litre fuel tax relief offered to consumers in April will have to be repaid in one way or another.
