💸 Bracket Creep — Why Your “Increase” Doesn’t Feel Like One

SARS has adjusted the tax tables for inflation this year — but for the past 3 years, there were little to no adjustments. And that’s where bracket creep comes in 👇

📊 What is bracket creep?
It happens when your salary increases (often just to keep up with inflation), but tax brackets stay the same.

➡️ Your income moves into a higher tax bracket
➡️ A bigger portion of your salary is taxed at a higher rate
➡️ You end up paying more tax… without actually being better off

💡 Example:
If your salary increases by 5% to match rising costs, but tax brackets don’t change, SARS may treat that as “real growth” — even though your purchasing power hasn’t improved.

😬 The result?
You could be paying more tax in real terms, even though you’re not earning more in a meaningful way.

✔️ While this year’s adjustment brings some relief, it doesn’t fully make up for the previous years — meaning many taxpayers are still feeling the squeeze.
