💼 Need a South African Tax Residency Certificate? Here’s how the RC01 process works
If you earn income overseas, work abroad, or need to claim tax relief under a Double Tax Agreement, you may require a Certificate of Residence from SARS.
The RC01 form is the official application for individuals.
Simple steps:

Download the RC01 form from www.sars.gov.za
Complete it fully and gather supporting documents (ID, proof of address, etc.)
Submit via email to [email protected] (with “Certificate of Residence” + your tax number in the subject) or at a SARS branch (by appointment)
Allow approximately 21 working days for processing

Many clients come to us feeling overwhelmed by the paperwork and strict requirements. At DATtax we handle the entire RC01 application for you — ensuring it’s completed correctly and submitted efficiently to avoid delays.
Planning to work or invest abroad? Comment “RC01” below or DM us and we’ll guide you through the process or handle it on your behalf.

🚨 Important Alert for All Trust Trustees
SARS is getting serious about trust compliance.
From 4 May 2026 (this coming Monday), SARS will start issuing automatic administrative non-compliance penalties for trusts with outstanding Income Tax Returns (ITR12T) for 2024 and 2025.
This applies to all trusts — active, dormant, or passive. No exceptions.
What you need to know:

Penalties are fixed monthly amounts ranging from R250 to R16,000 per outstanding return, depending on the trust’s taxable income or assessed loss.
They will accumulate every month until the returns are submitted and compliance is fixed.
Penalty notices (AP34) will begin going out from early May.

Even if your trust hasn’t traded, you could still face these recurring penalties.
Don’t wait until the penalties start hitting your trust’s account.
At DATtax we can quickly review your trust’s tax position, submit any outstanding returns, and help minimise or request remission where possible.
If you are a trustee or know someone who manages a trust, comment “TRUST HELP” below or send us a DM right away.
We’ll check what’s outstanding and get you sorted before the penalties kick in.
Act now — the deadline is only days away.

🚨 SARS is ramping up Administrative Penalties – Don’t get caught out!
From 4 May 2026, SARS will start issuing automatic administrative non-compliance penalties for trusts with outstanding income tax returns (ITR12T) for 2024 and 2025.
Even dormant or passive trusts are not exempt.
✅ Penalties are fixed amounts based on the trust’s taxable income — ranging from R250 to R16,000 per month per outstanding return.
✅ They recur monthly (up to 35–36 months) until you fix the non-compliance.
✅ Penalty notices (AP34) will start going out from early May.
This is part of SARS’s stronger enforcement drive — we’re also seeing tighter rules on understatement penalties, reduced defences for “inadvertent errors,” and stricter requirements around provisional tax estimates and payments.
Missing deadlines or returns is becoming far more expensive and automated than before.
Business owners & trustees:
If you have a trust (or company/individual returns) that are behind, now is the time to act — before the penalties start stacking up and interest kicks in at 10.25%.
At DATtax we help you:
• Submit outstanding returns quickly and correctly
• Request remission where possible
• Get fully compliant and avoid future headaches
Comment “PENALTY HELP” below or DM us today for a quick review of your situation. We’ll check what’s outstanding and help you sort it before May hits. 💼
Stay compliant. Save money. Sleep better.

🚨 Good news for small businesses!
From 1 April 2026, SARS has increased the VAT registration thresholds:
✅ Compulsory registration now kicks in only when your taxable supplies exceed R2.3 million in any 12-month period (up from R1 million).
✅ Voluntary registration threshold rises to R120,000 (up from R50,000).
This gives many small businesses and startups more breathing room, reduces admin burden, and improves cash flow — exactly what growing Western Cape entrepreneurs need!
Important reminders:

VAT rate stays at 15% — no increase this year.
If you’re already registered, you still need to file and pay your VAT201 returns on time (usually by the last business day of the following month via eFiling).
Thinking of deregistering because you’re now below the new threshold? Be careful — there can be unexpected VAT implications on assets and stock.

At DATtax we help businesses:
• Decide if/when to register or deregister
• Stay compliant and claim every input tax credit
• Avoid penalties
Is your business affected by the new VAT thresholds?
Comment “VAT HELP” below or DM us for a quick, no-obligation review. We’ll check your turnover and give clear advice tailored to your situation. 💼

"🚨 Just in from SARS – the official Budget 2026 Frequently Asked Questions is out!
Key highlights that matter for Cape Town businesses and individuals:
• Corporate Income Tax rate remains 27% for the year ahead
• Big relief for small & micro businesses – Turnover Tax threshold increasing to R2.3 million
• Higher limits on retirement contributions and medical tax credits
• Adjustments to help with inflation and savings
Whether you run a Pty Ltd, sole prop, or just want to stay compliant and save where possible, these changes can make a real difference.
My take as your local tax partner at DATtax: These updates show SARS is trying to give small businesses more breathing room — especially with the new tax year starting soon. Don’t miss the opportunity to review how they apply to you before the next deadlines hit!

🚨 Business owners — the clock is ticking!
Your company’s financial year ends 31 March 2026 (this Tuesday).
Key March deadlines you can’t miss:
✅ VAT manual submissions & payments → 30 March 2026
✅ CIT Provisional Tax payment → 31 March 2026
✅ Year-end bookkeeping & reconciliations
Miss these and penalties + interest start stacking up fast 😬
At DATtax we’re helping local businesses close off the year cleanly and prepare for the new tax year starting 1 April.
Comment “YEAR END” below or DM us today for a quick year-end checklist or to book a slot before the rush begins.
We make sure you don’t pay more than you should. 💼
