Education is an important human activity. And will continue to be as long as the human race continues. It has been rightly said that without education, man is a splendid slave, reasoning savage. Education is one of the important factors which formulate the persona of a person. Coco Chanel is quoted as saying “in order to be irreplaceable one must always be different”. Cultivating a love of learning is becoming imperative for success.

… “We have our challenges and surprises. The standard deviation of our emotions are set at MAX. You are never just a “little bit happy” or a “little bit sad”. At one moment you can be “off the scale” pi**ed off or frustrated or sad or worried or fearful or depressed. The next moment you are “off the scale” exhilarated, or enchanted, or inspired, or humbled by a kind deed, or surprised by something beautiful. It makes life interesting and worth living. – Paul Harris.

Monday 29th October, 2012.
Stock markets remain fairly quiet and steady in the US and in the East this morning. The US stock market will be closed today as Hurricane Sandy visits Manhattan. US economic (GDP) growth in the 3rd quarter was better than expected at 2%, with consumer spending one of the standouts.

SA strikes in Rustenburg still not over (Anglo Plats), with the 12,000 fired miners not accepting the new arrangement. Anchor Capital points out that SA government social grants are to be extended to another 1 million people, making it 17 million in total and the government has committed to a 7% wage increase from 2013-2015, all of which is considered retail friendly (to retail shares).

The JSE may open flat to down a tad this morning, say -0.25%. Nothing much to report.
