FELI NANDI: THE ARTIST WHO REFUSED TO BE BROKE A MASTERCLASS IN AFRICAN ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Yesterday, I had the privilege of meeting with my sister, the ever-glowing, ever-smiling, Feli Nandi . And listen I didn’t just meet a musician. I met a whole MBA. A whole entrepreneurship module wrapped in beauty, confidence, and raw Zimbabwean talent.

You know, in life there are people you meet and you just say,
“Ah this one… their success didn’t happen by accident.”
Feli is one of them.

SHE DID WHAT MOST ARTISTS ARE SCARED TO DO: SHE DIVERSIFIED

Most artists wait for shows the way some people wait for January salaries with prayer, fasting, and hope. But Feli? When she saw the music industry shaking like a Kombi with loose bolts, she said,
“Let me build something that doesn’t depend on promoters.”

And boom she launched Feli Nandi Traditional Clothing.

Not only did she start a clothing brand…
She went international with it.

My sister dressed Busy Signal, a whole Jamaican superstar. She dressed big figures across the continent. She pushed a cultural fashion identity when everyone else was busy copying Instagram trends.

That’s entrepreneurship.

That’s vision.

That’s “don’t just sing, build.”

WHEN OTHERS WERE OPENING FAST FOODS, SHE OPENED CULTURE ON A PLATE

Just when we thought she was done, she said,
“Ndokupai chimwe.”
And launched KwaNandi

Listen if you haven’t eaten there, you’re missing blessings.
That food is so good you start remembering ancestors you never met.
It’s traditional cuisine that slaps harder than economic sanctions.

While others are serving burgers and chips, she said,
“Let me cook heritage.”

That’s what entrepreneurs do they find a gap and fill it with flavour.

SHE REFUSED TO BE A SEASONAL INCOME ARTIST

Most musicians learned the hard way during COVID that shows are not guaranteed.
One lockdown and half the industry was on “GoFundMe behaviour.”

But Feli?
She didn’t wait for bookings.
She has built businesses that work even when she’s not on stage.

When she’s not singing, she’s designing.
When she’s not designing, she’s cooking wealth at KwaNandi.
When she’s not cooking wealth, her music is still healing souls.

This is what we call multiple streams of consistency.

SHE IS PROOF THAT TALENT + BUSINESS SENSE = GENERATIONAL WEALTH

A lot of African creatives think talent is enough.
But talent without strategy is just a hobby with confidence.

Feli didn’t rely on applause alone she turned applause into assets.

And on top of all that, my sister is incredibly gifted musically.
Her voice can baptize your stress.
My favourite song of hers? “Mufudzi Wemombe.”
A masterpiece. A sermon. A whole emotional experience.

What’s yours?

THE BIG LESSON FOR ENTREPRENEURS

You are more than one thing.
You don’t have to choose between your gift and your business mind.
You can do both and succeed at both.

Feli Nandi teaches us this:

Don’t be a one-income human.
Don’t wait for opportunities create platforms.
Your talent must feed your brand, not starve your future.

In a world where many are stuck waiting for “bookings,”
Feli is out there booking herself.

And that, ladies and gentlemen,
is what true African entrepreneurship looks like.

If Feli Nandi’s story inspires you, then it’s your turn to build, diversify, and rise. Don’t wait for bookings, blessings, or miracles create opportunities the same way she did. Whether you’re an artist, entrepreneur, or dreamer, start building your empire today.

In sales, your smile is your WiFi connection if it’s off, nobody is connecting to you! Across Africa, from Harare to Lagos, a simple smile can turn a stranger into a customer and a customer into family. Have you ever tried buying something from someone frowning like they’re solving Maths?

Smile, my friend. It’s free marketing, free customer service, and free branding all in one!

Thank you for standing with us, believing in the vision, and investing in the growth of African entrepreneurship.

Everyone in an organisation must understand sales because, at the end of the day, the biggest stakeholder in any company is the customer. It does not matter whether you are in finance, operations, HR, or even the boardroom; everything you do should contribute to attracting, serving, and retaining customers. Without customers, the company does not exist, and without their loyalty, no department has a purpose.

The most shocking truth is that a customer can fire anyone in the business, including the owner, simply by choosing to spend their money elsewhere. That is why sales is not a department but a culture. When everyone understands this, organisations grow with clarity and purpose.

In this generation, if our schools are not teaching AI, then we’re preparing our kids for a world that no longer exists. The future is digital, automated, and intelligent and our students must learn AI from a tender age, because like it or not, AI is here to stay, and it’s not going anywhere!

It was an absolute honour to serve as Guest of Honour at the Shalom Elite Junior School Prize Giving Day. Thank you for leading the way and investing in the future of our children.

WHY CULTURE IS THE REAL BOSS

If you want to destroy any organization — don’t fire the CEO, don’t close the office, don’t even burn the company car…
Just destroy the culture.
Finish and klaar.

Even religious organizations are not held together by buildings or logos — it’s culture.

Try to attack a church leader publicly.
It’s never the leader who fights you…
It’s the followers who come after you like WiFi passwords in January.
That’s Law 27 of The 48 Laws of Power:
“Build a Cult-like Following.”

THE COLONISERS KNEW THE SECRET
Even during the colonization of Africa, the first thing the colonizers did was destroy our culture.
They removed identity, confidence, unity — and boom, conquest.
Today we are still confused:
● We don’t know our national dress.

● We pay Lobola,

● then have a White wedding,

● then go to the court,

● then after the wedding we still go back home for Roora aftermath dinner.
By the time you finish all these ceremonies, your pockets look like Zimbabwean shelves in 2008.

Why? Because our culture was shaken.

EVEN FOOTBALL TEAMS SURVIVE ON CULTURE
Great soccer teams are not held together by their star players — ask Manchester United after Ferguson left.
They are held together by culture:
● Barcelona = Tiki Taka

● Liverpool = “You’ll Never Walk Alone”

● Kaizer Chiefs fans = Pain tolerance

● Dynamos = Yuhhh, let me not start a war…

Even outside the football field, culture is the glue.

LESSON FOR ENTREPRENEURS AND LEADERS
Over the years I have learnt this truth:
An organization with strong culture is harder to destroy than an organization with strong revenue.
You can lose people.
You can lose money.
You can lose assets.
But never — NEVER —
let anyone touch your organizational culture.
Because culture is:
● How people behave when the boss is not in the office.

● How they make decisions under pressure.

● How they treat customers on a bad day.

● What they tolerate.

● What they refuse to tolerate.

● The heartbeat of the organization.

New people will always come.
Sometimes they arrive with “their own ways” from previous jobs.
Teach them your culture.
Mentor them.
Explain the values.
Show them how things are done “in this house.”
But if they refuse?
Remove them quickly before they destroy the company slowly.
HR might say it nicer…
but culture says, “My friend, this door works both ways.”

Culture is not a wall painting.
Culture is not a slogan.
Culture is not a poster in reception.
Culture is the software of your organization.
If it crashes…
the whole company becomes like a phone with 2% battery and a cracked screen — useless but still surviving.
Protect your culture like gold.
Build it.
Teach it.
Enforce it.
And your organization will stand for generations

People love titles, but very few understand the weight that comes with them. Too many people walk around calling themselves CEOs, Directors, or Founders, yet the productivity behind those titles tells a completely different story.

The truth is that titles have destroyed many promising individuals because they create a false sense of entitlement. Instead of working, learning, and improving, some people hide behind the prestige of a title and forget that real success is measured by output, discipline, and consistency.

A title without results is just a name tag. What matters is the work you deliver, not what you call yourself. Businesses grow because of performance, not fancy positions.

27/11/2025

If you want to earn more, you have to start behaving like a CEO, not a visitor who only shows up for the basic salary. A sense of ownership is what separates high performers from people who clock in, warm the chair, and clock out. When you think like an owner, you stop doing the bare minimum. You start spotting opportunities, fixing problems before they become disasters, and pushing the business forward as if your name is on the registration papers.

The truth is, companies reward people who carry the organization on their shoulders, not those who treat the workplace like a waiting room. If you act like you are building something, opportunities will find you. If you move like the business depends on you, people notice. And if you operate with an ownership mindset, sooner or later the income will match the value you bring.

So stop working like someone who is just passing through. Work like someone who wants to be remembered. Behave like a CEO even before you earn like one, because leadership always shows long before the title arrives.
