We joined club leaders, industry partners and stakeholders for three days of networking, collaboration and valuable industry insights at the 2026 Your local club (ClubsNSW) Conference.

Deb & Kacey swapped the office for the Gold Coast to attend and flew the Beam flag in sunny QLD. The week kicked off at the Coast Turf Club for the ClubsNSW and Clubs Queensland Race Day, bringing together approximately 800 conference delegates. It was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with existing Beam clients, reconnect with industry contacts and meet representatives from clubs across NSW. Not a bad way to start a conference!

They also attended "Ch*****ne & Connections", a ladies networking event bringing together women from across the clubs industry. Hosted by Clubs NSW Board Chair Sallianne Faulkner, the event posed a thought-provoking question: "What advice would you give your younger self?" The responses were collected and transformed into a digital artwork, creating a great opportunity to share experiences, reflect and celebrate the women making a difference across the industry.

The main conference followed on Thursday and Friday, with an impressive program exploring everything from governance, gaming reform and anti-money laundering obligations to artificial intelligence, leadership, sustainability and economic trends.

There were plenty of highlights, including Jason Clarke challenging attendees to move beyond "best practice" towards "next practice", leadership insights from Dan Haesler and a look into the future of AI with Steve Sammartino.

One initiative that particularly stood out was the Clubs Helping Clubs program, which supports approximately 70 smaller NSW clubs to attend the conference. With one of our own clients benefiting from the program for two consecutive years, it was encouraging to hear how clubs are coming together to share challenges, celebrate successes and learn from one another. A fantastic example of the industry supporting its own!

The conference concluded with a deeply moving conversation between Danika Mason and Matt Nable, who spoke about resilience, family and the impact of motor neurone disease (MND). This one was particularly close to home for Beam, Katie's dad having battled and losing the fight to MND last year. A powerful and emotional reminder of the importance of family, community and supporting those around us, especially through life's toughest challenges.

And of course, it wouldn't be a conference without a little fun along the way! The Western-themed networking evening delivered plenty of laughs, line dancing, a Dolly appearance and more cowboy hats than we could count.

For Beam, events like these are about more than staying informed. They're an opportunity to strengthen relationships, better understand the challenges facing our club clients and bring fresh ideas and practical insights back to the businesses we support.

A big thank you to ClubsNSW, ClubsQueensland and everyone involved in delivering such a fantastic event. Deb and Kacey returned with valuable insights, new connections and some great memories!

Small business isn't always easy, but having a strong business community around you makes all the difference!

Last week, our Managing Director, Katie McCool, and Port Stephens Partner, Deb Esquilant, attended Port Stephens Unplugged at Nelson Bay Golf Club, proudly representing Beam as a Major Sponsor of the event.

A joint event with Business Port Stephens (BPS) and Port Stephens Women in Business (PSWIB), the evening was all about connection, collaboration and bringing our local business community together.

At Beam, we know firsthand that running a business comes with its challenges. That's why we're passionate about getting involved, supporting fellow local businesses and connecting with like-minded people who understand the ups and downs of the journey.

It was a great opportunity to step away from the day-to-day, enjoy some good company and strengthen the relationships that make our business community so special.

Throughout the evening we heard from Kate Preston and Dale Hourihan who presented the https://unplugged.org.au/ movement. Research driven, inspirational, statistics that are a little scary and a movement that really cares. Check it out! This was followed by our Mayor of Port Stephens Leah Anderson, sharing a personal story on her experience in this space.

A big thank you to BPS and PSWIB for putting on such a fantastic evening! It's wonderful to have a local business groups that actively champions small business and creates opportunities for businesses to connect, collaborate and grow.

We're proud to support initiatives like these and be part of such a strong Port Stephens business community!

A little Sunshine Coast sunshine, some familiar faces and plenty of fresh ideas!

Katie and Keeley recently headed to The Bookkeeper Event 2026, hosted by Australian Bookkeepers Network for three days of learning, laughs and catching up with some great people in our industry!

With "Change Creates Opportunity" as the theme, there was plenty to get our heads around: AI, automation, Payday Super, ATO updates and everything in between. One thing's for sure, there's never a dull moment in bookkeeping!

There were plenty of highlights throughout the event, including hearing from Grant Brodie, Deputy Commissioner at the Australian Taxation Office, whose genuine support for bookkeepers and BAS agents reinforced just how important our profession is to Australian businesses.

Keynote speaker Anthony Laye had everyone thinking about their own "Bubble of Brilliance", while DavidCowling from RHELLM reminded us that "Momentum breeds momentum." A great reminder that sometimes the most important step is simply getting started!

Mel Shortland-Power brought her energy and enthusiasm for all things payroll. Always guaranteed to bring a smile to the room!

MichelleTempley from Ignition was a game changer! So many great updates and clever improvements to make life easier. We love a good efficiency hack, and while we'd love to watch every webinar and product update, reality sometimes has other plans! Exciting things happening at Ignition.

And of course, we couldn't go without mentioning Peter Thorp and Kelvin Deer from Australian Bookkeepers Network. Always making waves as strong voices for our industry, keeping bookkeepers between the flags and in safe hands. We're certainly glad they're on patrol!

But let's be fair, some of the best moments happen between sessions! Catching up with familiar faces, meeting new people, sharing stories and having a few laughs is always a highlight.

For Beam, professional development isn't just about keeping up with change, it's about embracing it. We love bringing fresh ideas, practical insights and new opportunities back to our team and, ultimately, our clients.

If you lodge your BAS or IAS monthly, this is your reminder that your activity statement is due on the 21st of this month.

A monthly BAS covers GST and PAYG withholding for the previous month, a monthly IAS covers PAYG withholding for the previous month.

Staying on top of monthly compliance lodgements helps keep your numbers clear and avoids last minute stress.
