A $400,000 claim landed on our client's desk. They had 10 days to respond.

By the time we'd gathered everything we needed, that had shrunk to 5.

Here's the catch with adjudication applications: the applicant gets all the time they need to prepare their case. The respondent doesn't.

You're handed a couple of folders and told to move fast.

With $400k on the line, the pressure was real and so was the question on everyone's mind: is this worth fighting?

There's no point spending $10,000–$20,000 on a response if the prospects aren't there.

We reviewed the material. We liked what we saw. We ran with it.

Our client came out on top.

Facing an adjudication application? Get advice early! We offer 48 hour turn-around on initial advice following your initial consult because we know time matters.

Most people think they have a Will. Many don't.

An old form, an online template, something you meant to finish properly, none of it guarantees your Will actually holds up. If it's not valid, the law decides who gets what, which can mean the ones you love inherit minimal or nothing.

The good news? It's easy to check, and just as easy to fix.

Book a free Will Review with our Wills & Estates team and find out exactly where you stand. Call us today on 07 5444 1022.

Millions of Australian workers have received a pay rise.

From 1 July 2026, the National Minimum Wage increased by close to 6%, bringing minimum weekly pay to $1,004.90. Modern award rates rose by 4.75%, following the Fair Work Commission's annual wage review.

Here's where employers often get caught out:
The increase isn't applied uniformly across every classification, and the new rates take affect from your business's next full pay period, not immediately from 1 July.

Getting the timing or the rate wrong can result in back-pay obligations and penalties.

If you're not certain your payroll reflects the correct rates, it's worth checking. Contact our team today on 07 5444 1022.

How often should you update your Enduring Power of Attorney?

Your Enduring Power of Attorney isn’t something you set and forget.

If relationships change, you no longer trust someone to act for you, or sadly, someone passes away, it may be time to review and update your documents.
Something our team recommends considering is appointing backup attorneys. This means that if one person can’t act, someone else is already in place to step in when needed.

Regularly reviewing your documents helps ensure your wishes are always protected.

Not sure if your documents still reflect your wishes? We offer a free initial consultation to review them with you. Call us on 07 5444 1022 today to book your appointment.

Thinking about selling before EOFY? Timing is everything.

An option agreement lets you lock in a buyer now, but control exactly when the contract is signed. Which means you can secure your price today and push the transaction into the new financial year for the tax outcome you're after.

It's a powerful tool, but it comes with complexity, stamp duty, disclosure requirements, and nomination clauses. Getting the structure right matters.

If you're exploring an option agreement before June 30th, now is the time to move. Get in touch with us today to find out if it's the right vehicle for you.

Separation under one roof is more common than many people realise, and yes, you can still apply for divorce while living in the same home.

Under Australian family law, couples can be considered legally separated even if they continue sharing a residence for financial, parenting, or practical reasons. However, the Court requires clear evidence that the relationship has genuinely ended.

This can include:
• Separate finances and bank accounts
• Sleeping in separate rooms
• Reduced shared domestic duties and social activities
• No longer presenting publicly as a couple
• Informing family, friends, and government agencies of the separation

Importantly, you must still satisfy the 12 months and 1 day separation requirement before filing for divorce. If you remained under one roof during that period, the Court will usually require affidavits from both parties and an independent witness confirming the separation.

The Court also places significant weight on financial separation, particularly where Centrelink, Child Support, or shared expenses are involved. Clear documentation and consistency across your records can help avoid delays or further scrutiny. If you'd like to learn more about this, read our latest article on gpla.com.au

If you’re navigating separation under one roof, getting legal advice early can make the divorce process smoother and help ensure the correct evidence is prepared from the outset.
