You can know your bank balance and still not know where you stand.

That's why Multiplyher looks at your money through three lenses, distilled from 30 years of private practice:

Position: where you stand today. Everything you own, everything you owe, and what's left when you bring it together.

Motion: what's actually moving. The income coming in, the expenses going out, and the surplus you keep.

Direction: where you're going. The goals your money is there to support, whether that's security, freedom with your time, or the option to stop working one day.

Three lenses that connect your financial reality with the future you want to build.

You bought yourself something. You love it. And you still feel guilty.

After thirty years in advice, some of my review meetings feel more like confessionals than financial reviews.

That guilt is rarely about the money. It usually comes from a belief formed long before you earned your first dollar, often from what you saw and heard about money growing up.

When a purchase is planned and you can afford it, there's no need for shame or guilt. Just an old belief system worth looking at.

So when you spend money on yourself, do you feel comfortable with that decision, or do you feel you need to justify it? Tell me in the comments.

How much would you need invested to never have to work again?

It's the one number that changes everything. Here's how the Freedom Path Calculator works it out:

Where you are: what you own, what you owe, and what's left each month.

Your number: your target yearly income, multiplied by 25. Want $80,000 a year? Your number is $2 million. It's a common rule of thumb, based on withdrawing 4% a year.

Your timeline: what you have, plus what you add each month, grown at the return rate you choose. Where that line crosses your number is freedom day.

Your levers: change your contribution, return rate, target or withdrawal rate, and watch your freedom age move.

Debt, savings, the kids, the holiday. Everything wants your money first.

So you put a little everywhere, and nothing moves. That's not a discipline problem. It's an order problem.

An order that works:
1. Plan B first: a cash flow buffer and your protection in place, so one bad month can't undo everything
2. Your highest-interest debt, paid down first
3. Your goals, tracked, because the more you measure, the more progress you see

You don't need to fund every goal at once. You need to know what comes first.

Save this for the week every bill and goal lands at once. And what's the money question you've never asked out loud? Send it to me.

580,000 Australian women plan to start investing this year. What's holding many of them back isn't money.

The 2026 ASX Australian Investor Study found 40% of women planning to invest don't feel they know enough to start. For men, it's 26%.

The gap is confidence.

"Investing has been talked about in jargon, mostly by men to men, for a long time," Lisa Barber told The Daily Telegraph. "The good news is that confidence isn't something you either have or don't. In my experience it comes from learning, and learning is very fixable."

Where to begin? With the investment you already own: your super. Log in and find out what it's invested in, what you're paying in fees and how it's performed.

Then start small. A small, regular amount. Spread it out. Keep fees low. And don't do it alone.

You learn by starting. Read the full story in The Daily Telegraph: the link is in the first comment.

63% of Australian women feel financially insecure. Yet 44% say they earn enough to cover their needs.

Financial confidence isn't about how much you have. It's whether you feel you have enough.

Our new research of more than 1,000 Australians found women aged 35 to 44 feel it most: 3 in 4 don't feel secure. And almost 4 in 10 women avoid looking at their finances at all, mostly because of stress and anxiety.

Avoidance feeds the feeling of never enough. The way out starts with seeing your whole picture.

Payday comes. A week later, you're wondering where it all went.

The answer is one number: your surplus. What's left below the line once everything has gone out. Not what you hope is left. What actually is.

Add up what comes in. Add up what goes out, including the bills that only arrive once a year. Take one from the other.

That number is where every plan starts, because you can't direct money you can't see.

Save this and work yours out this weekend. Action is everything. Or let The Sovereign do it for you. Start at multiplyher.com.au

It's rarely a lack of money. It's not knowing where it goes.

Most people I sit with can't tell me what their life actually costs each month. Not because they're careless. Because nobody ever showed them how to look.

The Sovereign shows you every dollar moving through your life: what's committed, what's discretionary, and the most powerful number of all, your surplus.

Then it points that surplus at the goals you've named, so your money finally has a job.

Start here. Knowing your cost of living is where every plan begins.
