Tax pros, you know the struggle.

You: “Just send me your P&L.”
Your client: sends 83 blurry receipt photos from their camera roll.

And suddenly, September is looking a LOT longer than it did yesterday.

Because apparently “organized records” means a folder full of screenshots, mystery receipts, and transactions labeled “I think this was business.”

Tax pros, what’s the most chaotic thing a client has ever sent you for tax prep?

Tag a fellow tax pro who’s been there. And if you’re tired of playing Receipt Detective, let’s get those books organized before tax season hits.

1099 Prep Starts With the W-9 📋

Getting ready for the 1099 season? Start by making sure every contractor completes Form W-9 before you need to file.

A completed W-9 gives you key information, including:
- Legal or business name
- Federal tax classification
- Address
- Taxpayer Identification Number (SSN or EIN)

You’ll also want to keep accurate records of payments made to each contractor throughout the year. This makes it much easier to determine who may need a 1099 and helps prevent last-minute scrambling.

💡 Pro tip: Don’t wait until January to organize your contractor records. The best time to get prepared is now!

These reports can help you spot financial problems, adjust your goals, and make smarter decisions before the year ends.

Business owners, are you tracking your mileage correctly?

A small detail like using the wrong mileage rate could mean missing out on valuable tax deductions.

If you use your personal vehicle for business, make sure you're applying the correct IRS standard mileage rate based on when the miles were driven.

🚗 2026 Business Mileage Rates
✔ January 1 – June 30, 2026: 72.5¢ per mile
✔ July 1 – December 31, 2026: 76.0¢ per mile

With fuel costs increasing, the IRS updated the rate for the second half of the year so every business mile counts. Keeping accurate mileage records now can help you maximize deductions and make tax season much less stressful.
