Restricted funds are one of the most important areas of nonprofit finance to get right.

When donors or funders give money for a specific purpose, your nonprofit has a responsibility to track, manage, and use those funds according to the restriction. Done well, this builds trust. Done poorly, it can create compliance issues, reporting problems, and confusion around your true financial position.

Jitasa’s guide breaks down what restricted funds are, why they matter, common risks, and best practices for managing them.

Recently, 36 Jitawesomes in Thailand came together for the “Jitasa Cares: Be a Citizen Volunteer” project in partnership with the Thai Volunteer Service Foundation in Bangkok. 💙

During the four-hour event, the team sorted and packed medicines and essential medical supplies, prepared care kits, and wrote messages of appreciation and encouragement for caregivers and families.

The supplies will support Umphang Hospital in Tak Province and medical teams serving remote border communities, helping provide care to patients who may have limited access to essential resources.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped bring Jitasa’s spirit of service into the community!

Choosing an accounting partner is about more than finding someone who can balance the books.

For nonprofits, the right partner should understand fund accounting, restricted grants, board reporting, compliance needs, and the unique financial decisions that come with mission-driven work.

A strong accounting partner can help your organization:

📝 Keep financial records accurate and organized
📝 Prepare for audits and reporting deadlines
📝 Understand your financial position more clearly
📝 Make confident decisions for the future

The right fit should feel like an extension of your team, giving you more time and clarity to focus on your mission.

When nonprofit finances are easier to understand, teams can spend more time focusing on what really matters: their mission.

For the Land Trust of Santa Clara Valley, partnering with Jitasa helped bring more clarity, structure, and confidence to their financial reporting.

With a cleaner chart of accounts, improved QuickBooks setup, and reports that were easier to use, their team was able to better track funds, prepare for audits, and share financial information with leadership and the board.

That kind of financial clarity helps mission-driven organizations keep moving forward with confidence.

Seattle is one of the 16 host cities for this year's World Cup. 35,000 people applied to be volunteers, and the Seattle coordinators eventually selected 2,000 volunteers. One of those volunteers is fellow Jitawesome Bobby Powers. Bobby is working in Fan Operations at the stadium, helping fans know where they're going and passing out a little souvenir to fans.

"I am stoked to be part of such a massive international event," Bobby said. "This is the first time I've gotten the chance to do something like this, and the energy is electric."

Bobby says he's cheering for USA and Bosnia & Herzegovina--both of whom will play a match in Seattle.

Way to go Bobby!!
