As the group’s Arirang tour continues in South Korea, tens of thousands of fans are expected to travel to Busan for the next stop.

That kind of fan activity can create ripple effects across tourism, hotels, restaurants, merchandise, beauty, fashion, food, and local businesses.

Some analysts have even started using the term “Bangtan-nomics” to describe how the BTS fandom can shift from music and merchandise to broader spending tied to Korean culture.

One forecast suggests BTS-related fan spending could contribute up to 0.35 percentage points per year to South Korea’s GDP by 2040. However, experts note that estimating the full impact is complicated, since fan behavior, tourism patterns, and global conditions can shift over time.

Still, BTS offers a powerful example of how culture, fandom, and economic activity can overlap in ways that reach far beyond the stage.
