Today marks what most Americans refer to as “Tax Day”. That designation does make a lot of sense since most American’s due date for their personal tax return is today. That is why I’m wearing my red, white and blue.

But I’m a little “blue” for another reason. That is because, for most of us, Tax Freedom Day is still over a month away. That is the day that we will actually finish paying our federal, state and local taxes and actually start earning money that we will get to keep.

While most clients I talk to suggest to me that I probably love it when tax laws change because that means more business for us. That is not the case. I would rather spend my time helping business owners grow their businesses and create jobs and opportunity than filling out pointless forms that only exaggerate the governments ability to control how we act and react based on laws and regulation that sometimeses make little sense.

We operate under one of the worst tax systems in history where the government can manipulate entire industries with the stroke of a pen. If you really want tax freedom consider the Fair Tax or the Flat Tax and watch the power recede from Washington at break neck speed.

Until then, we will comtunue to navigate what we have the best way we can.

With the news that everyone’s (you read that right, everyone’s) social security numbers have been hacked, you need to go to the 3 major credit bureaus and place a credit freeze on your account. Having credit monitoring is not enough. They are only going to let you know once someone has already done damage.

With a credit freeze no one can extend credit without you manually unfreezing your credit.

The 3 credit bureaus are:

www.transunion.com
www.experian.com

Due to our continued growth we have an immediate need for a Junior Accountant for our busy Martinsburg, WV office.

Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in month end closing process for multiple businesses
- Reconciles multiple general ledger and bank accounts
- Prepares monthly financial statements for client use
- Preparation of sales tax and payroll tax returns for multiple states

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or equivalent experience
- 1-2 years experience in Finance/Accounting
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong working knowledge of Excel required
- Detail oriented and excellent organization skills
- Able to maintain confidentiality
