In honor of Halloween fast approaching, we've been swapping scary finance stories!

Meet Roger. Roger stays on top of things. He updated his will. He updated his deed. He updated his emergency contact.

Nobody told him his 401(k) doesn't read the will. It reads the form he signed in 1998 and the name on it... was his first wife's.

Beneficiary designations override your will. Every time. If it's been a while since you've checked who's listed on your retirement accounts and life insurance policies, this is your sign to take five minutes and look.

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and tax season scammers don't wait until tax season anymore.

A few habits that go a long way: 1) never click a link in an unexpected "IRS" or "PA Department of Revenue" text or email (they don't contact you that way), 2) use multi-factor authentication on every financial account you own, and 3) check your account statements monthly, not just at year-end.

If something ever looks off on one of your accounts, call us before you call anyone else.

-Have you maxed out (or at least revisited) your retirement contributions for the year?
-Any big life changes in 2026 that should show up in your tax or estate plan?
-If you own a business, have you talked to us about year-end moves before December 31, not after?

Ten minutes now can save a scramble in December. If any of these stand out to you, that's usually a sign it's worth a call.
