Revenue on your P&L doesn't always mean cash in your bank.

If you invoice customers, make reviewing Accounts Receivable part of your regular routine.

Look for:

💵 Overdue invoices
💵 Payments that haven't been applied correctly
💵 Old balances that need follow-up
💵 Invoices that may never be collected

You earned the revenue. Make sure you're collecting it, too.

📋 Don’t wait until January to chase down W-9s.

If you work with independent contractors, now is the time to make sure you have a completed W-9 on file for everyone who may need a 1099-NEC.

❗For payments made in 2026, the 1099-NEC reporting threshold is $2,000❗

Waiting until January to collect missing information can turn 1099 season into a scramble. Make it part of your process instead:

New contractor → Collect W-9 → Then issue payment. ✅

A little cleanup now can make year-end a whole lot easier.

Your P&L says you made money… so why is there no money in the bank? 🤔

It’s one of the most common questions we hear from business owners.

Profit and cash flow are NOT the same thing.

Loan payments, credit card balances, inventory purchases, owner distributions, accounts receivable, and timing can all create a big difference between what your P&L says you earned and what’s actually sitting in the bank.

Good bookkeeping doesn’t just tell you whether you made a profit. It helps you understand where the cash went.
