Picture a household that runs entirely on one paycheck. If you are 35 and that paycheck is yours, your death would not just be a heartbreak. It would be a financial collapse. That is the job the policy was bought to do: stand in for income that stopped without warning. It is worth knowing whether the coverage you have is still pointed at that job, or at a different one.

Here is the question that is not really about money at all. When I am gone, will my family remember me, not just inherit from me? People spend years on the transfer and almost no time on that. Some questions feel too rude to say out loud. What happens to me if something happens to you? Nobody wants to put that to their advisor. It feels like you are questioning their health. Ask it anyway. You are trusting one person with decades of your life, and you deserve to know what happens if they are not there. A good advisor will not flinch.

That knot in your stomach is not a character flaw. When you look at the world right now and feel it tighten, that is not irrational. That is memory. You have lived through enough to know what the last one cost. That reaction is information, not weakness. A plan that ignores how you actually feel when the news gets ugly is not much of a plan.
