Established by Charles and Betty Gibson and Scott and Mary Gibson in 1982, Family Memorials by Gibson is a tribute to the positive role of including family values in business. It had always been a dream of Charles (“Chuck”) Gibson to own his own company. He wanted to incorporate a personalized approach and a focus on quality previously unavailable in the local monument business. Chuck and Scott ha
d worked with other monument companies in the Midwest, giving them the experience and background necessary to see their dreams come true. They also had willing partners in their wives, Betty and Mary Gibson, whose participation enabled them to move forward in establishing the business as a truly family-oriented company. Since its inception, Family Memorials by Gibson has extended its family operation to a third generation – Scott and Mary’s sons & daughter, Tony, Michael & Maria, have taken on roles at the company as office manager, apprentice stone carver, and head artist respectively. In addition, Scott currently runs the shop, manages inventory and occasionally lends a hand carving in the shop. Each family member’s function has proven important to the job. The elder Gibson’s have become mentors and teachers, passing down their focus on family values and Christian ethics. Likewise, the younger Gibson’s are valuable additions, bringing new ideas and differing viewpoints to the team. With family members so actively involved, the business is refreshingly personal, especially in an age where mega-companies are taking over many areas of the retail and wholesale marketplaces. This family involvement also lends a distinctively personal approach to customer service that is no longer available in so many businesses. Customers are counseled one on one by a knowledgeable member of the staff, and oftentimes encouraged to express themselves or their loved ones personally by choosing a specialized memorial stone. This personalized service is of special value when choosing a memory of such lasting significance.
