Profit and cash flow are related, but they are not the same thing.
Profit is what remains after your business income exceeds its expenses. Cash flow is the money actually available to pay bills, payroll, taxes, and other obligations right now.
For example, your books may show a profit, but available cash can still feel tight when:
• Customers have not paid their invoices yet
• You purchase inventory before those items sell
• You make loan principal payments
• You set aside or pay sales tax, payroll tax, or income tax
Understanding both helps small business owners make better decisions and avoid surprises. Your books can show where the money is going—not just whether the business is profitable.
