Did you receive a CP53E notice from the IRS? Skip the QR code and go straight to IRS.gov to verify.

The IRS sent over 1.4 million of these notices as part of a shift from paper checks to direct deposit. Some were sent in error. The Taxpayer Advocate Service says to log into your IRS online account first. If it came to you by mistake, you can ignore it.
