A pension can provide a strong foundation.

But most educators will still face important decisions:

• Inflation

• Healthcare costs

• Retirement timing

• Supplemental savings

• Legacy planning

A pension is an important piece of the puzzle.

It's just not the entire puzzle.

The biggest financial mistake I made as a teacher wasn't a bad investment.

It was waiting.

Waiting to learn.

Waiting to save.

Waiting to create a plan.

Like many educators, I assumed I would eventually "figure it out."

The reality is that small financial decisions made early in your career can have a huge impact later.

If I could go back and give my younger teacher self one piece of advice, it would be:

Start earlier than you think you need to.

Nobody Teaches Teachers This

Teachers spend years learning how to educate others.

Almost nobody teaches educators how to manage their own financial future.

Things like:

✅ How TRS really works

✅ Choosing the right 403(b) plan

✅ Preparing financially for summers

✅ How to build wealth beyond a pension

That's something I'm hoping to change.
