NATIONAL BIKINI DAY
Since July 5, 1946, women have been hitting the beaches and pool sides in bikinis. National Bikini Day marks the anniversary of the invention of the revealing two-piece bathing suit.


Named after the Bikini Atoll, where the United States conducted atomic tests, the two-piece bathing suit made its debut in Paris. French designer Jaques Heim wanted to name revealing bits of fabric "atom," but designer Louis Réard named his piece, revealed on this day in 1946, with the name "bikini" and the word stuck.

NATIONAL CAMERA DAY
Everything comes into focus on June 29 when we recognize National Camera Day. This National Day commemorates the camera, photographs we've taken with our cameras. Follow along as we take a snapshot of some interesting camera facts and learn a few things, too.


A camera is an irreplaceable tool used to record and replicate memories, events, people, and places. Before the invention of the camera, the only resources to document a vision were paintings and drawings.. Capturing an image of a person or place in a drawing took time and skill. Very few people can perfectly draw the likeness of someone, let alone capture the essence of an event. The power of a camera provided many with a simple, inexpensive, and fast solution to capture important moments.
